Vitiligo Clinical and Research Centre now accepting referrals

Posted on 23rd July 2024  2 minute read

We are pleased to share that Vitiligo Society Medical and Scientific Panel Member, Dr Viktoria Eleftheriadou has recently established a new vitiligo treatment centre. The Vitiligo Clinical And Research Centre (Vitiligo CARE) will be open to adult and paediatric patients at Walsall Healthcare & The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts. The centre will be conducting clinical research to support the development of new treatments as well as more traditional treatments, as recommended by the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD).

Vitiligo CARE is a unique, national vitiligo research centre and centre of excellence in the heart of Midlands. At Vitiligo CARE, research trials on innovative treatments for vitiligo are being conducted and treatments recommended by the British Association of Dermatologists guidelines are offered to patients under one roof. For example, we are the only hospital in England offering [home handheld phototherapy] to our paediatric and adult patients with vitiligo

The centre offers opportunities to Dermatology Specialty Trainees, nurses and other healthcare professionals to get involved in national and international research projects and will increase participation in NIHR portfolio. I am fortunate to have a very experienced team of NIHR nurses, who are instrumental in running interventional and observational studies on vitiligo and an enthusiastic group of junior doctors and consultant colleagues, who share my passion for research.

How to receive treatment and get involved

The Vitiligo Clinical And Research Centre (Vitiligo CARE) is accepting referrals from outside of the Midlands area. You will need to request that your GP (or Consultant Dermatologist) refer you via the normal referral route to Walsall Manor Hospital indicating that this is for potential trial participation and that the diagnosis of vitiligo has been made by a consultant dermatologist.
