Our community nominate their top 3 self-tan products for vitiligo skin

Posted on 16th May 2023  3 minute read

In March 2023 we asked our community to share their favourite skin-coverage products with us. Over a hundred people responded enabling us to write an article series sharing the most recommended products from our community under the categories: Cosmetic Camouflage Products; Full Coverage Makeup and Foundations, & Self Tanners.

Self-tan products are often referred to as “sunless tanners” or “fake tan”. Most of these products work using the active ingredient DHA (dihydroxyacetone) or erythrulose which helps create a ‘healthy glow’ on the skins surface. They are generally non-toxic, non-permanent and skin safe, although you should consult a medical practitioner before using, especially if you have sensitive skin or other skin conditions. Caution should be used as they can stain clothing and sheets. Self-tan products can last up to 10 days.

Because camouflage and makeup products are easily removed by hygienic practices (soap and water and alcohol hand sanitisers) if you have several patches, especially on your fingers or the backs of your hands, then you might prefer to use a self-tan product.  Although these products are not designed to replicate skin of colour, the tan will help to lessen the visual impact of vitiligo.

No1: Dove Gradual Self-Tanner
