Submissions for The VitLife

The VitLife is an online member-only magazine by The Vitiligo Society. Non-members are allowed access to 1 free premium article per month but we attempt to create valuable, enjoyable content that encourages people to become a member and support those living with vitiligo.

Guest posts are a great way for you to bring the vitiligo community together whilst educating others about a broad range of topics often associated with vitiligo. It’s also an opportunity for you to advertise your own place on the internet whether it be a blog, social media, book, website etc.

We’d be more than happy to feature your work on our website, however, before you get started please can you refer to our guidelines below before you make your submission. We have frequent requests from potential writers and therefore we would like to ensure every submission is consistent to ensure it fits within the tone of the website.

What should you write about

The Vitiligo Society website covers a range of topics and focuses on a number of themes in relation to vitiligo. For example, we have previously covered topics such as;

  • Recognising and understanding the initial signs of Vitiligo
  • Experiences with treatment
  • What to do if you’ve been newly diagnosed
  • Nutrition
  • Research (past and present)

In line with our recent website modernisation, we would also like to include features that move beyond the general themes often discussed in the community. For example;

  • Relationships and support networks
  • Periods of difficulty (teenage years/adult years)
  • Fashion (example ‘How vitiligo impacted how I expressed myself through fashion’)
  • Experiences with camouflage products, makeup or fake tan etc.,
  • Top tips for living with vitiligo
  • Living confidently with vitiligo
  • Health and wellness
  • Dating
  • Social media and the vitiligo community
  • Vitiligo in the workplace
  • Social interactions

Opinion pieces are also fine (such as ‘why we need to educate school children about vitiligo’). There is a range of topics you can cover. We are also open to your ideas if you have a burning desire to cover a topic not yet covered!

Desired Article Structure

Please include a title that is snappy and engaging. A question-based title can work very well such as “How journaling helped me to understand my feelings in relation to vitiligo”.

Bio

With your submission please include a short bio and profile picture, i.e. your name, where you are from, your interests and your social media handles and your email address, if we don’t already have it. If you have a blog, or any social media presence, please include the link:

Word Count

Minimum 500 words  – Maximum 1500 words

Tone

Positive, casual and in first person. We like to hear our writers speaking so it’s important that you believe in the post that you are writing.  Your title should closely relate to your post and could be a key quote from your piece.

Photos

Alongside your piece, a large landscape header image plus two colour photos in JPEG format can be submitted. Photos should be of yourself or inline with the topic you are writing about. Please ensure they are a high resolution and of good quality. If they aren’t, we’ll politely request an alternative.

Social Media Embedding

Our platform allows you to embed Social Media posts directly into your article if you wish to. This great for referencing current affairs. Examples:

Instagram Post Embed
YouTube Video Embed

Embeds can really add diversity and interactivity to your article, so feel free to use them where you can!

Where your post will feature

Aside from featuring on The Vitiligo Society website, your blog post may also be used on our social media platforms as news stories on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. As your feature will be shared amongst the members area of the website we will grant you access to the feature for a short period of time which will allow you to see how the post looks once shared, see any comments and you’ll also be able to print a copy. We can also send you a PDF copy, which is great aid if you are trying to build your writing portfolio. Alternatively to have access to all features you can consider becoming a paying member which will give you full access to the members area of the website.

Write for us!

Whilst we aim to keep your post in its original format, we may need to tweak to fit in with the tone of the website. Any edits will be sent to you for final approval.
